The makers of the film Tumbbad has released a spine-chilling trailer starring Sohum Shah in the lead role. The movie is directed by Rahi Anil Barve, the period horror thriller revolves around three generations of a Hindu upper caste family.
The trailer opens, and we see a family leaving Tumbbad and they say “Sarkar mar gaya” (Sarkar is dead). Tumbbad has a treasure hidden in it and the legends says that it is protected by a ghost and we can clearly hear its voice saying,‘One shouldn’t claim everything that they inherit’.
Set in the 1920s, Tumbbad centres on the Rao family and their son and heir Vinayak (Sohum Shah), whose greed for wealth opens the doors to horror and the mayhem unleashes. The film also stars Jyoti Malshe, Dhundhiraj PrabhakarJogalekar, Anita Date, Deepak Damle and Ronjini Chakraborty. Ship of Theseus director Anand Gandhi is the film’s executive producer, creative director and co-writer. Adesh Prasad is the co-director.
In an interview with The Indian Express, Tumbbad director Rahi Anil Barve had said, “The focus is not on showing a rainy village in 1918. It is to drag the viewer from his chair and throw him into that rainy village where he can smell the earth, and experience the events by staying close to the characters.”Rahi also revealed that there are very few dialogues in the film which“revolves around a person’s deepest fear – indifference.”
Tumbbad, which had been awaiting release for many years, was backed earlier this year by Aanand L Rai’s Colour Yellow Productions and Eros International, paving the way for its theatrical opening in India on October 12. It was premiered at the Venice International Film Critics’ Week on August 9.
Sohum Shah made his acting debut in Ship of Theseus and has since featured in Talvar (2015)and Simran (2017). Barve has previously directed the short film Manjha. He is also a producer on Tumbbad.
